MOBILE GENOMES

'We investigate the patterns and mechanisms of genomic variation in disease'

Uxía Piñeiro Moldes, PhD student

uxia.pineiro.moldes@rai.usc.es

Biologist, graduated in 2024 at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). My Bachelor's thesis, which focused on studying changes in protein location and ubiquitin-like modifications, motivated me to continue pursuing an academic career. With that in mind, I earned a MSc in Biomedical Research (USC), where I joined the Mobile Genomes Lab. During the Master's project, I deepened my interests in genetics and genomics, while learning new techniques and approaches on this field.
I am currently embarking on a PhD in Molecular Medicine, with a focus on retrotransposons and their role in genomic stability. I also enjoy collaborating with citizen science projects, mainly dedicated to the study of local biodiversity, since I consider myself an amateur naturalist.
